IELTS Writing Preparation
Writing is where many strong candidates lose bands on task response and coherence. Train like the exam: timed, typed or handwritten to match your test mode, then rewrite weak paragraphs.
Task Response First
- Task 1: Cover the key features—Academic charts vs General Training letters need different checklists.
- Task 2: Answer every part of the prompt; plan for 3–5 minutes before writing.
Cohesion and Grammar Range
- Vary sentence openings and linking words naturally.
- Track your repeat errors (articles, tense, subject-verb agreement) and fix them in revisions.
Rewrite Cycle
- Write under time
- Compare with band descriptors
- Rewrite one paragraph to “next band” quality
Pair with Reading for idea input and study plan for pacing.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use a template for Task 2?
Use flexible frameworks—introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion—not memorized essays. Examiners penalize off-topic or memorized content.
How important is word count?
Task 1 and Task 2 have minimums; writing too little hurts your score. Practice hitting length under time.
How many practice essays per week?
Quality beats quantity—one fully corrected essay often beats three unchecked drafts.
