IELTS Scores

IELTS scores are reported as band scores for each skill and as an overall band. Understanding how those numbers are used by schools and authorities helps you set training priorities—especially when a single section minimum is higher than your current ceiling.

Reading Your Report

  • Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking bands.
  • Overall band derived from the four skills under official rounding rules.
  • Test type (Academic or General Training) printed on the report—verify it matches what you booked.

Training Implications

If Listening and Reading are already at target but Writing lags, more unmarked Reading tests will not fix the block. HelloOlivia coaching reorders your week around the binding constraint—often Writing coherence or Speaking fluency—while maintaining the other skills so they do not slide.

Section Floors vs Overall Bands

An overall 7.0 with Writing 5.5 can still fail a program that demands Writing 6.0. Always train to the strictest constraint on your requirement sheet. HelloOlivia coaching starts there, then protect other skills so they do not drift while you repair the bottleneck.

Using Official Feedback

When remarks or feedback are available, bring them into coaching. Vague disappointment (“Speaking felt bad”) is less useful than “Part 2 ran under time and Part 3 examples were thin.” Precise notes shorten the next improvement cycle.
